"<name_2>?" <name_1> asked, stargazing, with <pronoun_1> head lying on my knees. "Do you love me?"

I looked down. "Of course, <name_1>." I replied, patting <pronoun_1> "I'm not going to leave you, ever!"

"Even if <antagonist> will try and break us apart?"

"<antagonist_pronoun> hatred will never separate us, <pet_name_1>." I smiled. "We'll be together till the end of time!"

"And [you'll give me/I'll give you/we're gonna adopt] a bunch of cute kids." <pronoun_1> smiled.

"Naturally."

And then we <display_of_affection>.
I didn't get to write what I wanted to write, but fuck it, I'll give you something, even if it's mostly a rant about how things written by amaeturs aren't always good. Happy V-day to me.

The problem I have with most shipping fics is that they're incredibly formulaic. There's A, and there's B, and they're in love, often despite odds and common sense, (e. g. A bullies B) and there's the asshole who either gets fucked or atones in the last act, and A and B stay together FOREVER AND EVER. The personalities and quirks of the characters take a backseat.

If you think this is a jab at whatever couple you're shipping, it's not. This is something most of you have in common.

Truly a work comparable to Romeo and Juliet.
No, but seriously, this is how most romance fics work in a nutshell. Add in gratuitous rape and character bashing and you get the perfect recipe for suckiness.
